The Museum of Archeology of Volyn was founded on March, 9, 1977 by Lutsk Institute. Various archeological material, found during the first-year students’ practice diggings, became the exposure basis. In 1994 at the Historical Faculty of Volyn State University named after Lesya Ukrainka the Department of Archeology and Source Study was founded, by which the museum went on its work. The museum was replenished by findings from archeological expeditions, which from the 70-th were headed by the author of numerous works in Volyn archeology M. M. Kuchynko. He conducted diggings in Rovantsi, Gorodyshche 2, Shepel of Lutsk region, Lutsk, Volodymyr Volynskyi and other settlements. In 1983 on the site of X-XI centuries ancient settlement near Gorodyshche 2 an expensive silver treasure was found by him, which photo in original size decorates the Museum of Archeology at the Historical Faculty.

            The head of the department of Archeology and Source Study, Professor of History, Mykhailo Mykhailivich Kuchynko, was the founder of the museum. Professor of History Ohrimenko H.V., Professor of History V.V.Petrovich ran the museum during its existence.  The museum got the certificate and passport, registered in the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in the period of V.V. Petrovich’s heading.

            The museum, functioning in room 106, counts 13 exposures that are constantly renovated with new material by the members of the department and students of the historical faculty. Museum funds comprise 784 archeological exhibits, 364 ethnographical    exhibits. Existing studies of Ethnography and Special Historical Disciplines (room 102), Ethnology (room 108) are independent contributions to the museum.

            The names of the museum’s exposures are as follows: Paleolith, Neolith, the Brazen Age, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Eastern Slavonic peoples, Ancient Russ, Volyn in XIV-XVI centuries, Ancient Lutsk, Archaeological Investigations’ Methodics, an Archaeological Map, the Evolution of a Human Being. The number of exposures is planned to enlarge.

            Not all exhibits are displayed for the lack of room.
