During 2002-2004 the leading sportsmen of our university successfully took part in prestigious competitions on the state and international levels.

The combined teams of our region and Ukraine have such sportsmen as: Roman Ryzhyj who became a silver prizewinner of the CIS championship in track-and-field athletics (discus throwing); Yurij Lavrenyuk is a champion and a record-holder of the world and Europe in a dash; Vitalij Volkov is a champion of Europe in heavy athletics; Olexandr Semenyuk is a world champion in karate; Andrij Rostoka is a double world champion, a silver prizewinner of para-olympic games in Sidney, a champion of Europe in 2003 and a champion of para-olympic games in 2004 in the combined Ukrainian team in football.

High achievements of our sportsmen were marked in working out the totals of conducting of the 4th summer Student Games of Ukraine in 2003, in which the students of the Volyn Lesya Ukrainka State University won 6 gold, 7 silver and 20 bronze medals, and took the 10^th place among 206 higher educational establishments of Ukraine.

The student combined team for 90% is staffed by the students of our university.

Among the teams of the 3^rd group our region took the 2^nd place with 3765 scores, 3561 of which were brought by the sportsmen of our university. Other higher educational establishments won in general only 204 points.

We would like to mark the teachers who contributed a lot to the preparation of our sportsmen for the summer Student Games: Myhajlo Moroz, Volodymyr Yalovyk, Alla Alyoshyna, Bohdan Rozputnyak.

Since 2002 after formation of sports club, popular sports activities with students and workers of our university were considerably activated.

Students take part in local sports competitions in which during 2002, 2003 and 2004 years the Institute of Physical Culture and Health won the first places and the Volyn Lesya Ukrainka State University won the second places among higher educational establishments of Lutsk.

 The sports and athletics meeting is held among the students of the Volyn Lesya Ukrainka State University, which includes 8 kinds of sport, and sports and athletics meeting among the students of the Institute of Physical Culture and Health, which consists of 7 kinds.

The sports and athletics meeting is held with the purpose of subsequent development of physical culture and sport at the university, strengthening students’ health and envolving them in systematic employment of physical culture and sport, increasing of sporting mastery, exposing of the strongest teams and sportsmen for completing of the combined teams of the university in definite kinds of sport and participation in regional, all-ukrainian and international competitions.

The program of sports and athletics meeting includes competition in such kinds of sport like: volley-ball, basket-ball, table tennis, chess, draughts, track-and-field cross-country race, mini-football, track-and-field athletics. Competitions in every kind of sport are held in accordance with certain regulations.

In 2004 the sports club organized the university cup competitions in playing  such kinds of sport as: mini-football, volley-ball, basket-ball. In these competitions amateur combined teams of the Volyn Lesya Ukrainka State University had an opportunity to compete with the sportsmen of the Institute of Physical Culture and Health.

In 2003 the trade union of workers and sports club considerably activated sporting and health improving work with teachers and workers of the university. A  sports and athletics meeting was organized among the workers of the Volyn Lesya Ukrainka State University on occasion of the 10^th anniversary of formation of the university.

7 faculties, the Institute of Physical Culture and Health, the department of physical education and health and administration of the university took part in sports and athletics meeting. 10 teams in all. First of all we would like to mark  faculties of physics and mathematics, the teachers of which took part in all kinds of competitions. These two faculties accordingly won the 1^st and the 2^nd places. We are eager to mark the dean of the faculty of mathematics  - Igor Koval’chuk, who not only organized the teams but also took active part in competitions.

The faculty of chemistry, the representatives of which took part in 4 kinds of competitions, took the 3^rd place (chess, draughts, badminton, cross-country race).

The teachers of the faculty of geography also took part in four competitions and took the 4^th place.

The administration won the 5^th place (3 competition); the faculty of history won the 6^th place (2 competitions); the faculty of law won the 7^th place (1 competition); the faculty of psychology won the 8^th place (1 competition).

There are certain changes in involving the workers of the university in physical culture. Teachers go in for badminton, table tennis, volley-ball, football. Their amount is small so far, but we hope, that gradually teachers and workers of the university will be more actively engaged in physical culture.

During 2002 and 2004 6 sports and athletics meetings among the students of the university, which included 40 sports competitions, 3 sports and athletics meetings of the city of Lutsk - 24 competitions, 2 sports and athletics meetings among teachers and workers of the higher educational establishments and nearly 30 competitions of different level (regional, Championships of Ukraine, Student Games) were held, in which the students of the university took part.

For the next 2005-2006 academic year it is planned to hold the following  sports and health improving activities:

1. Sports and athletics meeting among the students of the Institute of Physical Culture and Health, which consists of 8 kinds.
2. Sports and athletics meeting among the students of the Volyn Lesya Ukrainka State University, which consists of 8 kinds.
3. Sports and athletics meeting among the workers of the Volyn Lesya Ukrainka State University, which consists of 5 kinds.
4. Participation in regional sports and athletics meetings.

As we see, sport-popular activities at the Volyn Lesya Ukrainka State University have become more frequent.
