The department head is kandidat philologichnyh nauk professor of English philology department Ljudmyla Ivanivna Bulatetska (cab. 62, tel. 4-65-47).
The department of English philology was founded in 1985 on the base of English practice department. 14 lecturers of English and literature work on the department, among them kandidats philologichnyh nauk, professors — 2; kandidats philologichnyh and pedagogichnyh nauk, readers-6; kandidat philologichnyh nauk, senior lecturer - 1; senior lecturers-3; assistant lecturers— 2; 2 laboratory assistants. 64,2% of lecturers have graduate degrees. Average age of lecturers — 41 year.
The staff of the department works at the complex department theme "The semantic, stylistic, sociolinguistic and dogmatic features of linguistic units". Two collections of articles were deposited on the theme of the research: in 1991 in Moscow and in 1995 in Kiev.
In December, 1999 the department finished working on the state budget theme "The semantic, stylistic, sociolinguistic and dogmatic features of linguistic units". The person in charge of this was the first department head, kandidat philologichnyh nauk professor of English philology department Olikova M.O.
Ten postgraduate students and researchers work at dissertation researches.

The members of the department made learning resources and facilities, tests. The department has certain achievements in writing degree papers. Its high quality was marked either by chairmen of DEK and members of expert committee.
The department staff constantly developes its scientific level and teaching methodology level, having an advanced training in various educational establishments of Ukraine and abroad. The English philology department head professor Bulatetska L.I. in 1996 had an advanced training in Chicago university state Illinoys, in 2001 she won Fulbrayt`s grant. Professor of the department Olikova M.O. had an advanced training in Cambridge university (Great Britain), MSU by M. Lomonosov, Moscow foreign languages institute by Morise Torez.Maryland state university (The USA), institute by John Kennedy by the Berlin Free university. The senior lecturer Beljakov O.O. had an advanced training in Sent-Luis university Mississippi state. The postgraduate of the department Gorbach S.S.had an advanced training in Harvard university (The USA) in 1999. The same year kandidat philologichnyh nauk senior lecturer Ushchyna V.A. had an advanced training at the university of Mississippi state.
The lecturers of the department are constantly engaged in research work, they lead the students theme groups:
- Problems of text interpretation (scientific supervisor is senior lecturer Beljakov O.O.);
- Linguistic aspects of reference (supervisor - kandidat philologichnyh nauk professor Bulatetska L.I.);
- Sociolinguistic markers of discourse (supervisor - kandidat philologichnyh nauk professor Olikova M.O.);
- Borrowings of roman origin in modern English (supervisor - kandidat philologichnyh nauk professor Efremenko N.I.);
- Aesthetic potential of art text (supervisor — kandidat philologichnyh nauk professor Nifaka T.I.);
- Valuing component of advertising (supervisor — candidat philologichnyh nauk Kyrychuk L.M.)
The members of the department wrote a plenty of the scientific articles, abstracts, manuals, books of teaching methods, they eagerly take part in scientific conferences conducted in Ukraine and abroad.
The department enjoys strong links with British Council (branch in Lviv) and Peace Corps of the USA in Ukraine. They make presentations, take part in conferences.
The volunteer of Peace Corps Stewen Boyd Saum worked at the department in 1994-96.He gave Country study and American literature lectures. He founded edition of students` newspaper "Uni-press" in English. Another volunteer of Peace Corps Emil Niculescu worked at the department in 1996-97 and Lucreciva Miss in 2001-2002.
The lecturers of the department constantly take part in translators` work in National Council of economic education in the USA.
The lecturers of the department are the members of jury at school Olympiads and contests of scientific work defence of Mala Akademija Nauk.
They give lectures, take classes for the school teachers advanced training, help lyceum teachers to make working programmes and take part in selection and intermediate testing.
