With the purpose of co-ordination and improvement of humanitarian and educating work in the university in September, 2000 a humanitarian-educating department was created as a structural subdivision of Lesya Ukrayinka Volyn state university.

The basic tasks of department are defined as:

· assistance of development of humanitarian work;

· development of legal base concerning guidance of educating work;

· preparation of methodical recommendations concerning organization and conducting of educating work;

· assistance in organization of the really operating system of educating work;

· determination and realization of priorities in humanitarian and educating work assignments;

· introduction of scientifically grounded and practically approved methods and forms of education of students.

Forming socially-active personality humanitarian-educating department does everything possible to regularly engage every student in different types of public activities, to enable him to take part in the work of student self-government, varied youth organizations clubs according to interests.

In its activity the humanitarian-educating department pays much special attention to:

· patriotic education which is realized through participation in scientific conferences and meetings with the veterans of the II World War and warriors of Ukrainian Insurgent Army, mass meetings-requiems dedicated to the Day of Liberation of Lutsk, Victory Day, other city and university public holidays;

· to professional education, which includes education of students through educational disciplines, conducting of weekly public-educating hours, meetings with workers and famous scientists;

· to the general culture and aesthetic education – through the collective visiting of theatres, exhibitions and concerts, going on excursions to the museums, organization of parties and discos;

· to economic and physical education which presupposes cleaning of the  territories, organization of interviews with the leading medical specialists of Lutsk and Volyn region about healthy way of life, prophylaxis of AIDS, of drug addiction and alcoholism;

· the development of student self-government – through co-ordination of work of students dean`s offices and students hostel’s boards.

Humanitarian-educating department, trade-union organization of students and the board of campus conduct reviews-competitions for the best student hostel, the best room, the best wall newspaper. For the best informing of students the stands «Student Board Informs» are designed in hostels. Their content corresponds to the rhythm of student life: graphs of duties, lists of members of student board of the hostel, orders, wall newspaper, and announcements. Aesthetic design of these stands is modern and satisfies the requirements of time.

Every month meetings of students with doctors are organized in all student hostels. The observance of healthy way of life, prophylaxis of minor offences, drug addiction and alcoholism are the main topics of these meetings.
